Ein Shapefile besteht aus einem zwingenden Paar mit Endung .shp und .dbf. Dazu können weitere Dateien kommen:
- myfile.shp: Shapefile geometry data
- myfile.dbf: database data, siehe DBF
- myfile.shx: shapefile index (internal), falls .shx fehlt, kann es mit
- myfile.sbn: shapefile (internal)
