Notes about auto-discovery of geodata by Stefan Keller:
Based on the source indicated below I strongly propose following in order to ease auto-discovery of geodata:
- A "see and see also" file containing typified weblinks that provide semantics to help focussed crawlers.
- Weblink typing: xlink Atom link relation type,
- Carrier file formats: HTML (Meta Tags) sitemaps.xml , KML, GeoRSS (xlinks)
- Geotag icon (Microformat) for human readability and trustworthiness (Google's principle of visual control).
- A leightweight haversting interface like OpenSearch-Geo
- Extension of GetCapabilities from OGC WxS specifications
