3 types of QGIS files
What are all these QGIS file types? Why do I need them might be relevant here. It gives an overview of the different types of QGIS files:
-
*.qml
- style information, including labels, for a single layer (without any reference to the data / to that layer, so you have to apply it to an existing or otherwise created layer within your project)
-
*.qlr
- (since QGIS 2.8; earlier versions supported by plugins)
- one or several layer definitions (incl. layer styles and references to the respective layers in the data sources) and their order in the legend (without the rendering order, though, if that order deviates from the order in the legend)
-
*.qgs
- a complete QGIS project, including all of the above + rendering order + zoom/pan state + more
To create a QLR file, [choose "Save as Layer Definition File" in the context menu of a layer or layer group in the "Layers" panel](http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/88834/does-qgis-have-the-equivalent-of-arcgiss-layer-lyr-file/89099#89099). They seem to correspond roughly to *.lyr
files of ESRI ArcGIS.
