- link (URL) which leads directly to information about a place and to other geo-spatial information. G. is a bookmark (favorites, hyperlinks, URLs) which points to a location aware website, like http://flickr.com/map/rapperswil !
Explanations:
- In contrast to 'normal' links which are human readable through the usual browsers these GeoBookmarks lead to internet services which are machine readable with the addition that they are location based and often also temporal based.
- Such web or mobile applications with strong geo-spatial functionality are also known as location based systems (LBS).
- A G. can also be interpreted as a "Permanent Link" which stores a user defined state (context) of a mapping application. There is a OGC standard called "Web Map Context" (WMC) which stores such information (especially for WMS clients).

Erläuterungsversuche:
- Im Gegensatz zu 'normalen' Links, die menschenlesbar über verbreitete Browser aufrufbar sind, sind dies Bookmarks, die zu Internetdienste führen, die maschinell lesbar sind mit dem Zusatz, dass sie einen Orts- und oft auch einen Zeitbezug haben.
- Bei solchen Web- oder mobilen Applikationen mit ausgeprägten raumbezogenen Funktionen spricht auch von Location Based Systems (LBS).
- Ein G. kann auch interpretiert werden als "permanenter Link", der einen benutzerdefinerten Zustand (Kontext) einer Kartenapplikation speichert. Es gibt einen OGC-Standard namens "Web Map Context" (WMC), der derartige Informationen speichert (z.B. von WMS-Clients).
